Italian eyewear label, Ferilli has unveiled a new series of portrait images for the summer season, celebrating its eco-sustainable sunglasses and optical frames – and the naturally flattering qualities of their distinctive designs. Handcrafted from cellulose acetate combined with prickly pear cactus fibres, Ferilli Eyewear remains the only eyewear producer to use this unique combination of materials, with the natural fibres subtly visible beneath the surface of every frame.
Our frames, crafted from natural materials, are inspired by the landscapes of Puglia in Southern Italy. These new summer images reveal the delicate patterns beneath the surface of the acetate alongside a refined Pugliese-inspired colour palette, illustrating how the natural qualities beautifully complement and flatter the human face…
Every detail in the Ferilli Eyewear collection has been thoughtfully considered to achieve a harmonious balance of comfort, craftsmanship and contemporary style whilst remaining true to the brand’s commitment to sustainable design and responsible material innovation. Ferilli Eyewear was founded by optician and orthoptist Cristiano Ferilli in 2018 in Lecce, Puglia. The brand was born from his passion for eyewear design and sustainability, and rooted in a close connection with the landscape of Salento and its local, natural materials. The brand’s signature natural material – prickly pear fibre from the cactus (in Italian, fico d’India) – is widely available in Puglia, and is considered an invasive weed. From its inception, the brand has explored the material, considered as waste, for creative purposes, elevating its desirability in eyewear for the various advantageous properties of its fibres, including lightness, resilience, individual character and aesthetic beauty. The eyewear material is obtained through a natural dehydration process of the cactus leaves which is entirely pollutant-free.
