Premiering at SILMO this month, the Lumia Collection promises to introduce a fresh expression of MODO’s renowned lightweight eyewear, exploring the relationship between colour, transparency and light in a completely new way. Combining refined engineering with luminous new materials and an expanded palette, the collection represents a significant evolution for the House of MODO while remaining true to its minimalist design philosophy. In this interview, Giovanni Lo Faro, CEO International, discusses the thinking behind Lumia, the technical innovation that underpins the collection, and why its launch marks an important new chapter for the brand’s international growth and long-standing commitment to sustainability.

Q: MODO is releasing a completely new collection at SILMO 2026. Describe its characteristics.
A: Lumia marks a further step forward for Modo, it reimagines the brand’s signature lightweight design through a new perspective. Lumia continues Modo’s pursuit of frames with a distinct design and uncommon detailing that feel almost weightless, pairing its signature engineering into a dedicated and radiant colour palette. From crystal-clear transparencies to saturated luminous hues, the collection captures the ever-changing interplay between light, material, and form.
Q: What are the special features in the construction of each design?
A: Each design in the Lumia collection is built around Modo’s long-standing commitment to lightweight engineering, combining innovative materials with carefully considered construction details that enhance both comfort and performance. At the heart of every frame is an ultra-thin milled R1000 memory plastic front, engineered to minimize weight while maintaining strength, flexibility, and shape retention. The fronts are paired with flexible beta-titanium temples, a material chosen for its exceptional durability, lightness, and flexibility, ensuring utmost comfort. A key feature of the collection is its screwless beta-titanium hinge system, which snaps directly into the front endpiece. This streamlined construction reduces the number of components, contributes to the frame’s clean aesthetic, and enhances long-term reliability. The temples feature a progressively tapered square profile, providing an optimal balance between lightness, flexibility, and comfort. Highly adjustable beta-titanium pad arms and soft silicone nose pads allow for a customized fit, while newly developed temple tips incorporating Modo’s recessed metal square logo add a refined finishing touch. Beyond the technical construction, Lumia approaches lightness from both a physical and visual perspective. The ultra-thin profiles, sharply defined edges, and translucent colour treatments work together to create frames feel lightweight when worn and also appear visually light, allowing colour and light to become integral elements of the design.

With Lumia engineering, comfort, and aesthetics are seamlessly integrated, delivering the signature MODO experience through a fresh exploration of colour and modern form. How would you describe the colour palette in this collection and please give examples of colours that feature here for the new season. Is the overriding colour theme “timeless”? Exploring translucent hues, luminous tones, and light-inspired combinations brings depth, movement, and personality to every frame.
The colour palette for Lumia was developed around the collection’s central inspiration: the way light interacts with colour, transparency, and form. The palette balances timeless neutrals with more expressive, light-driven tones. Core colours such as Matte Black, Ink, Grey, Mocha, Champagne, and Light Smoke provide a refined and enduring foundation that reflects Modo’s understated design philosophy. These shades emphasize the architectural character of the frames and reinforce their clean, minimalist aesthetic. Alongside these classics, Lumia introduces a more vibrant spectrum of colors that bring the concept of light to life. Shades such as Electric Blue, Teal, Red, Fuchsia, Acid Green, FluoGreen, Orange, and Purple interact beautifully with the translucent qualities of the material, creating depth, luminosity, and subtle variations as light passes through the frame. Lumia explores the balance between timelessness and expression.
The neutral tones ensure longevity and versatility, while the brighter colours introduce energy, individuality, and a fresh perspective that is new for Modo. Together, they create a palette that feels modern yet enduring, bold yet sophisticated—perfectly aligned with the collection’s vision of lightweight design seen through the lens of colour and light.
Q: What does the launch of Lumia mean for MODO this season in terms of its growing offering and international footing? Where will this collection be available?

Q: Finally on sustainability, do you feel that sustainable materials have become more “mainstream” and therefore more desirable across consumer groups and different ages? HOUSE of MODO is one of the early adopters of sustainable materials and has much experience in this field, is that right?
A: Yes, we believe that sustainable materials have become increasingly mainstream and are now an important consideration for consumers across different age groups and markets. What was once viewed as a niche choice has evolved into a broader expectation, with consumers becoming more aware of the environmental impact of the products they purchase and increasingly looking for brands that demonstrate genuine responsibility. HOUSE of MODO has been engaged in sustainability for many years, always oriented at a sizeable and tangible impact. Eco Eyewear plays a pioneering role in the adoption of a 360 degree approach to sustainability, that spans from frame materials to the supply chain and ultimately down to empowering each consumer to make a difference. Since its foundation, Eco Eyewear has placed responsible material innovation at the centre of its product philosophy, continuously exploring new solutions that combine environmental responsibility, design, comfort, and performance. Over the years, Eco Eyewear has developed extensive experience with a wide range of more sustainable materials, including bio-based materials, recycled metals, recycled aluminium, bio-acetate, and ocean plastic. These materials represent different approaches to reducing environmental impact, from incorporating renewable sources and recycled content to recovering materials that would otherwise contribute to waste.

Our objective has always been to demonstrate that sustainability and design excellence can coexist. Sustainable materials are not viewed as a compromise, but as an opportunity to innovate and create eyewear that meets the highest standards of quality, durability, comfort, and aesthetics.
At HOUSE of MODO, we also believe that sustainability extends beyond materials alone. Responsibility can take many forms, including more conscious processes, transparent practices, responsible packaging solutions, and initiatives that create a positive social impact. Through programmes such as ‘MODO Help a Child See’, we support access to vision care for children in need, demonstrating that a brand’s purpose can also contribute to a more positive impact on society. Through our Eco One Frame One Tree programme we have planted over 4 million trees and this allowed the brand to reach the status as a ‘Carbon Negative brand’.
As sustainability continues to become a mainstream expectation, we believe that consumers will increasingly value brands that combine authentic commitments, innovation, transparency, and a clear purpose—creating products that are better for both people and the planet.
Q: What are the key characteristics that HOUSE of MODO as a design house wishes to underline about sustainable responsibilities and transparency in the business for the future?
