Innovation at ROLF, in stone

Tyrolean eyewear producer, Rolf continues to set new benchmarks in working with natural materials, with the release of new styles in wood and stone for Autumn 2026. Model Superbird, nominated for a SILMO D’OR 2026, in the “Optical Frames / Craftsmanship & Know-how” category is described as featuring a razor-thin layer of genuine slate which is meticulously bent around the edges and curves of the frame in the Tyrolean manufactory, with every frame becoming a truly unique piece thanks to the multilayered texture of the natural stone. Because stone and wood cannot be thermoformed like conventional frame materials, Rolf relies on two proprietary, patented technologies.

For the lenses, to preserve the integrity of the frame, Rolf developed its own glazing system. The lenses are mounted with a fine thread guided through two small bores, keeping the frame front structurally intact while providing exceptional stability.

In addition, the frame features the brand’s signature FlexLock hinge with a rubber-elastic spring-element joint. Screwless and designed for multi-axial movement, the hinge automatically returns to a defined neutral position, combining flexibility, durability and long-term reliability.
