ERKER’S 1879 to make Silmo debut

Erker’s 1879 will make its first-ever appearance at SILMO Paris this September, marking a significant new chapter in the international development of the fifth-generation, family-owned eyewear company. The brand will use the occasion to unveil the Flight Collection, a new line inspired by its historic connection to pioneering aviator Charles Lindbergh. In 1927, Lindbergh completed the first solo nonstop flight from New York to Paris wearing aviation goggles crafted by Erker’s, according to the company’s historical records. Almost a century later, the Flight Collection brings that story back to the city where his landmark journey ended—while translating an extraordinary piece of the company’s heritage into contemporary eyewear.
Founded in St. Louis in 1879, Erker’s began as a full-service optical house working with everything from prescription eyewear and cameras to microscopes and aviation goggles. That breadth of expertise continues to influence the brand today as it approaches its 150th anniversary and expands its partnerships with independent optical retailers across Europe and North America. The Flight Collection comprises 22 new designs: 18 optical styles and four sunglasses. Every frame carries a signature flight-cap emblem on the temple tips, created as a tribute to the goggles worn during Lindbergh’s historic journey. The collection is handcrafted using premium cellulose acetate, custom rivets and hinges, surgical-grade stainless steel and Erker’s 1879’s proprietary hand-polishing technique.
