ERKERS1879 takes flight with new collection

ERKERS1879 introduces the Flight Collection, a new line of optical frames and sunglasses inspired by one of the most remarkable chapters in the heritage eyewear house’s 147-year history. Founded in St. Louis in 1879, ERKERS1879 has remained in the hands of the Erker family for five generations. Its story is closely connected to the development of the American optical industry and, in 1927, the company created the aviation eyewear worn by Charles Lindbergh during his historic solo non-stop flight from New York to Paris.

Nearly a century later, that authentic connection provides the inspiration for the Flight Collection. The new line comprises 22 designs: 18 optical frames and four sunglasses. Each model interprets the spirit of early aviation through contemporary proportions, refined colours and distinctive details, without reproducing the original eyewear. An emblem inspired by an aviator’s cap appears on the temple tips, continuing an ERKERS1879 tradition in which every collection carries its own symbol and story. These emblems also appear throughout the collection’s packaging and visual presentation, giving opticians an engaging narrative that can be shared naturally with customers.

The Flight Collection reflects the brand’s optical expertise as much as its heritage. Designed by a family of opticians for opticians, the frames combine premium acetates and high-quality titanium with carefully considered bridges, sizes and proportions. Comfort and fit are central to the collection: the frames are balanced, lightweight and designed to sit naturally on a wide variety of faces. Custom rivets and hinges, a 48-step manufacturing protocol and ERKERS1879’s proprietary hand-polishing formula contribute to the tactile quality and precise finish of each frame. The result is a collection that feels contemporary while remaining timeless, recognisable and easy to wear.

The Flight Collection will make its European debut during ERKERS1879’s first participation at SILMO Paris, from 25th to 28th September 2026. The complete collection will be presented in Hall 7, Stand B166, in a dedicated ERKERS1879 space where visitors will also have the opportunity to meet members of the fourth and fifth generations of the Erker family.

With the Flight Collection, ERKERS1879 transforms a genuine piece of optical history into a new chapter designed for today.
