Jean-François Rey works with colour and graphic design concepts in a unique and personal expression, in a new line inspired by the street art of Marseille. The URBAN COLLAGE collection is a line of 3 acetate models inspired by street art and iconic graffiti images in Marseille – the designer’s home city, and the very famous Cours Julien neighbourhood. The designer has been inspired to work on encapsulating the light and the artistic excitement of his cosmopolitan city in the South of France - where the Showroom JF Rey is located -, and presents an intuitive and singular interpretation, according to the company. Composed of 12 pieces with very evocative feminine lines, the collection stands out for its collages of acetate materials, achieved with an asymmetrical and diagonal lamination technique. The technical complexity goes together with meticulous stylistic research based on the individual selection of each tone, each shade and pattern of acetate plates. The materials are then placed together in a sophisticated artistic patchwork offering a contemporary mix where colours and prints create a new style and energy. The design is focused on the refinement of the materials as well as the choice of vibrant and bright hues inspired by the street art colour palette. By using tortoiseshell in graphic combinations and contrasting styles the designer adds an assertive, distinctive and modern look to the models.
