Etnia Barcelona announces its new limited-edition capsule today, a line which they have created with Spanish painter, Ignasi Monreal. Known as the “enfant terrible” of Spanish art of the 21st century Monreal is particularly famous for his work with Gucci, which began with the first #GucciGram project in 2015, the GG Caleido and GG Blooms designs in the backdrop of a retro TV weather forecaster and commercial. The artist has also worked with Bulgari, Vogue, Dua Lipa, Rosalia and Fka Twigs.

His first solo show ‘Plats Bruts’ at La Fresh Gallery (Madrid) in 2019 presented a series of photorealistic paintings – inspired by still life of the Italian and Spanish Baroque. In this new collaboration with the Barcelona eyewear brand Etnia the creative journey between artist and brand began with John Berger’s ‘Ways of Seeing’ (1972). Embarking on a journey which delivers glasses and the possibility of enjoying enhanced “peripheral vision” the project presents a concept of eyewear which, with the extra eyes on the temples, plays with the fantasy of “never missing out on a chance of inspiration”. In addition to the frames, the artist created two eye-shaped masks to feature in the collection campaign directed by Monreal in Rome – the artist’s second home. With photography by Paolo Zerbini, and a mix of humour and romanticism typical of his work, the campaign shows the tour the ‘eyes’ took around the city, during which time the artist took the opportunity to include friends and those closest to him in the Italian city.
