ECO EYEWEAR introducing Eco Ocean

What's on in Europe
February 10, 2021

Eco Eyewear announces the release of Eco Ocean, an eyewear line which reuses ocean based plastic and gives it new life. To gather fishing nets, ropes, and trawls from the ocean, the brand has teamed up with Waste Free Oceans, an NGO that works with fishermen who collect the used plastic. The resulting plastic granules are turned into Eco frames with properties such as lightness and a smooth, matte finish in ocean-inspired shades like aqua, ink, and clay, as well as classic black, olive, and blue. In a first for Eco – customers can choose between polarized and non-polarized sunglasses. The SS21 campaign has been designed to revolve around the brand’s connection to the sea and aims to “spread positive vibes encouraging the sustainable choices people can make in their everyday lives”.

"We’re part of a generation that welcomes positive change and no matter how small, making the right choices can lead to a wave of change!"

In a statement about the launch, the company said that making a difference starts with making better choices, and using sustainable materials such as recycled metal, castor seed oil, and ocean based plastics in their frames. All the cases and packaging are also made from sustainable materials like cornstarch and PET.

The optical and sunglass models
The new collection includes model Kai, a women’s deep rounded square with a slightly curved upper brow. Model Lana is a classic cat-eye, and Neri takes it a bit further with a deeper, more rounded base. The men’s square model Tide has rounded edges, inspired by a wayfarer design. Model Cove is the classic unisex pantos with a retro key-hole bridge, while Sand has a more rectangular shape with lenses rounded at the base. In a first for Eco, the SS21 ocean sun collection will feature sunglasses with either polarized or non-polarized lenses. Among the featured styles is model Laguna, a women’s cat-eye design with deep rounded lenses and a thicker edge at the temples, which gives a bit of a butterfly effect. Coast is a classic pantos for both men and women, featuring a keyhole bridge.
