The last few seasons haven’t been short on glitz (yes, those glitter-encrusted booties from Saint Laurent and Balmain) but instead of sparkling watch faces or diamond tennis bracelets, our magpie fix has been largely satisfied by embellishment on our clothes, from dresses to jackets, from sparkling heels, shiny pants and flashy sunglasses.
It’s raining crystals! While we’ve been dazzled by the recent array of red-carpet jewels, this bling bling trend is about wearing ornate, heirloom pieces with straightforward, surprising outfits. We’ve moved on from minimalism and become a little bored of normcore. Time to take inspiration from the fashion shows: a perfect sparkling trench from Anouki, a cocktail dress from Saint Laurent, an evening gown from Rodarte. For instant haute-casual glamour, accessories are the key. Chandelier earrings, different shapes of sunglasses that come in different colours will instantly update all our wardrobes. Daytime sparkle means wearing spiky stilettos with boyfriend jeans and a statement pair of sunglasses: a secret weapon to shine. Different types of stones embossed on lenses for different style combinations. Sunglasses as well as opticals can be the secret touch to shine, not just by night. In the past, stones, crystals and glitter used to adorn the arms and bridge of the glasses; the new trend is to draw attention to the lenses, defining shapes with little details that won’t go unnoticed.
