From 30th April to 2nd May 2022 at Rho Fiera Milano, 650 exhibitors from over 45 countries will exhibit their collections and products at MIDO for an audience of Italian and international buyers, opticians, designers and journalists. The entire eyewear supply chain, from large brands to smaller companies focused on innovation, will be on display in the 5 MIDO pavilions at Rho Fiera and in the Fashion District, Lenses, Design Lab, More!, FAiR East, Lab Academy, Start Up and Tech exhibition areas. Among the trends highlighted at MIDO will be a number of specific themes: gender-neutral eyewear, vintage with a return to the 1970s, greater sustainability in the materials used in packaging and in processes, the transformation of classic styles like the cat-eye with softer lines and fresh mini or round shapes, and the new colour palette: neon tones, flamboyant and shimmering colours, as well as pastel hues. In light of the focus on sustainability that MIDO has undertaken in 2019, the first edition of Stand up for green, the award for the most sustainable stand, will be presented in the Fashion District square on 1st May at 2.30 pm, along with the BeStore Award for the best optical shop in the world. Buyers' Rewards will be available in Hall 15, in the Otticlub area where during the three days of the event, buyers will be able to collect  two volumes: ‘’History of Optics’’ by Silvio Maffioletti and Sergio Cappa which tells the history of lenses and eyewear starting from the origins, and authored by Adriano Moraglio, well-known Italian journalist, “Through the looking glass” that interweaves facts and fiction in a novel that narrates 50 years of MIDO through the personal and professional adventures of a family of opticians. Finally, on Sunday 1 and Monday 2 May, from 2 to 4 pm, buyers will be honored with glasses made in 2020 numbered copies to celebrate the half-century of the event, made by Spectaful for the Yugaav collection, winner of the contest organized by MIDO for the realization of this commemorative eyewear. MIDO’s digital platform will be open to the entire MIDO community thus promoting business opportunities. MIDO will also be organizing seminars and meetings which will be held in the Otticlub space, pavilion 15, with the collaboration of partners like WGSN, GFK, Federottica and others. The topics will include retail marketing and the power of colour in design, with an eye on the S/S 2023 season, sustainability, and more. At 10.30 am on April 30th, the exhibition will be officially opened with a lively event, alternating artistic performances and followed by the presentation of the sector’s year-end data (2021) and the forecast for 2022. Awards will then be presented to the companies that have participated in MIDO for the last 50 years and to the past presidents.
