PHILIPP PLEIN – with eyewear partner De Rigo Group – has launched a new luxury and lifestyle concept, the first phygital eyewear style: the Crypto King$ Limited Edition. The eyewear collection, featuring the exclusive phygital style, was presented as a world exclusive at SILMO, and at a special event at the boutique situated in Avenue George V in Paris, attended by Plein, who had flown in especially from Milan. Always avant-garde and always ready to break boundaries and experiment, PHILIPP PLEIN was the first luxury brand to adopt cryptocurrencies as a payment method and to open a Crypto Concept Store in London. Re-affirming itself as a pioneer, the brand brings physicality into the digital world and gives physical presence to virtual things.
The AW22 eyewear collection by PHILIPP PLEIN reflects the identity of the brand, transferring the various distinctive features onto its eyewear. A striking collection with a bold style and strong spirit inspired by Rock ‘N’ Roll. Designed for confident men and women who want the very best and are not afraid to express their personalities, the styles are characterised by meticulous attention to detail, exclusive materials and a flamboyant, oversized design. The icons of the PLEIN world - skulls, studs, crystals and the hexagonal ‘PP’ logo - become audacious and precious details, which, when re-imagined in different ways, come to personalise the frames. Black, grey and white are the core colours of the collection, expertly blended in exclusive acetates so as to re-produce the marble featured throughout the PHILIPP PLEIN boutiques. With pops of bright orange and gold, everything is amplified to stand out and never go unnoticed.

The highlight of the collection is the exclusive SPP008 phygital model: a mask style sporting a modern and decisive design. The thick acetate profiles of the front piece create a spoiler effect on the sides, whilst the lens is embellished with a geometric hole featuring the three-dimensional metal PLEIN logo. The temples are crafted from thin metal and personalised with the iconic hexagonal ‘PP’ logo, while the acetate temple tips are embellished with a titanium insert. This style is available in two colour variants: matte black acetate, gold-coloured metal and rainbow mirrored lens; glossy black acetate, gunmetal metal and silver mirrored lens. A limited-edition drop of 1,000 phygital frames was launched during an exclusive event at the PHILIPP PLEIN boutique in Paris on 24 September. Every pair has its own serial number and is accompanied by a special box featuring a video screen offering a preview of the NFT (non-fungible token), the unique piece of art created for that style by Antoni Tudisco, the internationally-renowned 3D artist who founded the Crypto King$ artistic duo together with Philipp Plein.
To access the NFT artwork, the customer will have to scan the QR code printed inside the exclusive box.
“I’m proud of the partnership with De Rigo, which has now reached new heights. With this hyper-contemporary project, I’m able to express my vision and deliver a unique experience within the eyewear industry”, stated Philipp Plein. Barbara De Rigo, Chief Marketing Officer at De Rigo Vision, commented: "The collaboration with a brand as dynamic and disruptive as PHILIPP PLEIN is a real game changer for our company. With the first phygital style, we demonstrated our ability to design, manufacture and target a wider community by bringing eyewear into the digital world”.
