The 8th Edition of the Florence fair, DaTE took place on 19th and 20th September 2020. The event is held annually at Stazione Leopolda, Florence. The trade fair was opened by the President of DaTE Giovanni Vitaloni, Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Manlio Di Stefano, President of ICE, Carlo Ferro and Mayor of Florence, Dario Nardella. President Vitaloni said: “DaTE is a chance for Italy and our exports – which represent 90% of our production – to begin again. I wish to thank ICE, who have worked with us from day 1 in the development of the digital platform for the buyers and those involved. DaTE is an event which gives us energy to recuperate what we have lost in the last months and it is important for us to return to Florence once again, the location we have enjoyed during the last three editions of this event." Di Stefano described the event as a “rebirth” rather than a “restart” and said the fashion sector is where things really needed to get underway again. President Ferro reminded the audience of the importance of the collaboration with the Government and thanked the attendees and exhibitors present. The Mayor added that we should remember the importance of working as a team and continue to put trust in the trade events like DaTE which will return as before. DaTE represents an important step forward for the eyewear industry, according to the organisers - as a first meeting point for the eyewear industry in Europe since the start of the Covid crisis. 80 brands were exhibiting their new collections to buyers from Italy and further afield. A digital platform was available for those who were not able to attend: https://dateyewear.ice.it.
